Established in 1919, with Harry Hayward kicking off the family business, we can now celebrate over a century of trading and to this day, we continue to be owned and operated by the Hayward family.

Brendan Harry Hayward introduced the company to container haulage during the 1990s and this would prove to be a pivotal step in the company’s progress. In 1992, Brendan’s son Sean entered the business, becoming the first 3rd generation Hayward to join the company and helping it to move forward successfully.

Harry continued at the helm of J Hayward and Sons until 2002 when he sadly passed away at the age of 96, at which point the reins of the business were taken by his 3 children; sons Brendan and Trevor, and daughter Pauline.

The family business grew from strength to strength, especially during the recession of 2007 when Hayward’s cemented its position within the container haulage sector. Sean Brendan Hayward, supported by Dad, Uncle and Auntie would go on to fly the flag as the Third generation of Hayward Transport – The People’s Haulier.

With Sean as Managing Director, the company extended its presence in both Leeds and Liverpool, and in turn raised the bar once again, establishing a strong reputation as a Nationwide family haulier.

Brendan Hayward witnessed Peter Radburn join the family business, seeing Sean reunited with his best friend from school, and Brendan being a role model of Pete’s, growing up.

We are immensely proud of our history and will continue to remember our roots and key principles, which revolve primarily around looking after our team and workforce, to provide the best possible services for our customers.

Pauline witnessed her daughter Stefanie join the business in 2021 – Stefanie is another 3rd generation member of Hayward’s. Pauline was immensely proud, and rightfully so.
